Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, of historical and enduring importance because of its hardness and workability. Growing profusely in the middle hills of Nepal at altitudes of 3900 feet to 10000 feet, allo fibre from the Giant Himalayan Nettle (Girardiniadiversifolia) has been used for centuries for clothing and around the home and farm. An amazing natural fibre, it is lightweight and cool in the summer but also warm in the winter. Allo is highly durable and becomes increasingly soft and pliable with wash and use. Our sustainable allo products are produced completely by hand. The material is renewable and biodegradable so is a sustainable choice.
Our handmade brass jewellery is cut, assembled and polished in the jewellery workshop at a collective in Kathmandu, Nepal, certified by the World Fair Trade Organization. AURA QUE started working with the group in 2019. The artisans benefit from numerous initiatives, including allowances for family medical care and children's education, and a savings scheme.
